Noni Fruit

History of Noni

Noni is native to Southeast Asia but has been extensively spread throughout the Pacific Islands.  It is believed that approximately 2,000 years ago, the ancient people of French Polynesia brought the Noni plant with them as a source of food and medicine when they colonized the islands of the South Pacific.  Today, product from the noni plant has become widely available in health food stores around the world.

Traditional Uses of Noni

Traditional uses of the Noni plant are varied, but virtually every part of the plant is used for some sorts of medicinal purpose.  Healers used Noni leaves as a bandage or poultice for wounds.  Young, green fruits were crushed and the extracted juice was used as a remedy for lesions or sores in the mouth.  Root or stem bark was typically used to treat inflammation or infections.  Other conditions treated with Noni include fever, skin diseases, respiratory problems, gastrointestinal upset, menstrual or urinary problems, diabetes, and venereal diseases.  Research into the traditional uses of Noni indicates that it was the second most popular plant used in herbal remedies.

Proven Health Benefits

In the past few years, Noni has begun penetrating the world due to scientific and medical studies.  Many universities worldwide are conducting clinical experiments with the Noni plant and studies have been published concerning the many health benefits of it.
Noni helps strengthen the immune system and resistance against diseases.  It contains scopoletin which has been shown to lower blood pressure.  It helps the body to produce nitric oxide, relax and expand blood vessels, so as to relieve stress on the arteries and heart.  Noni increases the level of serotonin, which can provide mental clarity and help depression and many sleeping problems.  It also helps effectively break down enzymes so that the body absorbs nutrients more thoroughly.
